USAT| In a tale of two racks, few copies to buy

Depending on your perspective, it's either a good thing or a bad thing that I found only one copy of USA Today shortly after 1 p.m. San Francisco time at my neighborhood Starbucks. The rest were copies of The New York Times and local papers:

On Union Street in San Francisco's tony Cow Hollow area, the Starbucks rack carried the NYT's name, but not USAT's. This store didn't have any copies at all:

  1. Why, Oh why, can't this company do something right. Whoever came up with the Starbucks plan had a good idea, but it's just not being executed. It's not a real big thing in the great scheme of Gannett, but it's just another example of a screw up of something that should have been easy to accomplish.

  2. Good job Dave Hunke. I am sure the Board of Directors and Mr. Dubow and Ms. Martore feel great that you pulled the wool over their eyes.

  3. The Union Street store confirmed that it does, indeed, sell USAT.

  4. Bad: USA TODAY could sell more copies but it sold out.
Good: USA TODAY is a popular newspaper whether you like it or not.

  5. Mine is sort of the same:

    Good: Sold out.
Bad: Didn't stock enough to sell even more.
