That's the difference between good and great photojournalism.
You're right. Journalism is and always will be about people and the things they do. Before my lay off in July of 2009 I was a staff photographer for a New Jersey paper. Even in a scenic weather art photo I always made sure to have a person in the photo, otherwise it was just a pretty shot or a shot of some destruction. Without a face in the photo there's no human element.
