"...when I see CEOs like Craig Dubow making out like bandits -- while Gannett downsizes and lays off personnel -- it makes me sick. I hope Mr. Dubow sleeps well at night."

  3. He must be a sociopath. Pay cuts, layoffs, and he's taking millions more. Pure sociopath. I guess sociopaths fill out job-matching forms and the results come back saying they're best suited for a career as (a) murderer or (b) CEO.

  5. I wouldn't mind the obscene salaries of Gannett's muckety-mucks if they were actually worth it. These people are vultures picking away at the bones of a dying enterprise.

Sure, the stock price has rebounded but there is no coherent plan to sustain the company. They only trick Gannett knows is to consolidate and cut costs. This company might as well be in the fertilizer business.

  6. Lets take a poll. How many people would get the green flu for 1 day and stay at home in protest of the green these blood suckers are taking from this company. This would be the only way to stop this bleeding.

  7. Do feel a sick day is in order for every Gannett employee but I truly feel that most are too weak to actually do it. In the day of unions a sick out always worked because the employer could do nothing about it. If we all got a back bone this could work. Wouldn't it be fun to see all the managers try to do the work we do, considering they have no clue how to do it! I say SICK OUT is the way to go!

  8. Unions are the only hope for workers at places like Gannett. (I'm generally non-union, but this is ridiculous.)

  9. I empathize with the poster that Jim referenced, but people need to understand that this is what capitalism is all about.

It's like a giant game of monopoly and it's all about money, not people. The idea of a capitalist system is not to provide employees with healthcare, retirement plans, etc. It's about making money.

Sure, you can pray that the people at the top have basic decency but -- as we're seeing -- that's pretty risky.

Are you sure you're a capitalist? Or are you really a socialist who just doesn't like the word?

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
