[Amateur golfers McGraw, Jenner]
Bob Hope Classic golf tournament junkies, take note: I've stumbled across what appears to be a list of the 384 well-heeled amateurs playing in this year's charity event, which runs next week in winter resort Palm Springs, Calif. Among the celebrities scheduled to play: Dr. Phil McGraw and Bruce Jenner, the Olympiad now better known as the stepfather keeping up with reality TV's Kardashians.
But I don't see a couple amateur players that have lately interested Gannett Blog readers, including newspaper division President Bob Dickey (left).
Longtime blog readers will recall the headlines Dickey's appearance last year generated, when amateurs paid up to $25,000 apiece to play with a PGA professional. The Gannett executive's name appears on the 2008 amateurs list, and last year's list, of course. Yet, check out what I think is this year's amateurs list tucked away on the tournament website. Unless some players are hitting the links under assumed names -- and what's the point, if your friends don't know? -- it appears the Gannett player won't be seen on this year's greens.

So far, the relaunch has been pretty sane. But "tucked away?" You add some extra drama, like you found something hidden, ala Da Vinci Code. In this case you cracked the secret code of "pairings" and "day one". Congrats. Look out, Dan Brown.
ReplyDeleteI am fascinated that Don Felder plays golf.
ReplyDeleteFelder the musician? Or some other Felder?
ReplyDeleteSeems like lesson learned by Dickey.
