Shutdown | Blog stays open 'til midnight tonight

I'm reposting this, for those who may have missed my earlier note:

I'm taking advantage of the wiggle room I set aside, in the event news warranted a later shutdown than I last scheduled. So, now, Gannett Blog will close permanently today at midnight ET. That gives you an extra day to post comments here.

  1. Sweet! Thanks, Jim.

(I assume you mean late Friday, and not early Friday.)

  2. And then it'll be Saturday ... then Sunday ... then Monday ... and on and on.

    Wow.

  3. And Jim is allowed to adjust the closing of this blog.

And YOU 2:12 PM are a flack who will spin this to your own agenda. And you call Jim egotistical?

YOU are the right bloody nutter.

  9. Is Sparky your butt buddy??

    Corp employee.

  10. Ha ha! Look at the angry corporatistas!

  11. You're a peach, Jim. And Sparky is a doll, too.
Thanks for all your work and support.

  12. At 12:02 a.m. July 10, the suicide watch will begin for all the pathetic Jim-sheep who think everything is a corporate conspiracy.

    What a bunch of fools.

  13. Wait a second, 3:34 PM - you mean everything ISN'T a corporate conspiracy?

That the All-Seeing Eye of Todd isn't directing every comment against Jim on here?

What shocking, shocking news. I can only say: Wow.

(This place is as amusing sideshow as I await to see if I still have a job ...)

  14. 3:34, there is no finer representative than you of this angry, misguided corporation.

  15. Please 3:34, keep showing the world what it's like to work at Gannett for people like you!

Everyone take note: 3:34's mindset is exactly how Gannett management views its workforce.

  16. Two Jim-sheep immediately come in and prove the point.

Will they choose pills or a bullet on July 10?

  17. Great, now a Gannett manager steps in to urge laid off workers to commit suicide. That's just great.

  18. Actually, just the opposite, 4:05 Jim-sheep.

The idea is to keep an eye on the people who might succumb to the loss of their security blanket.

  19. Jim, thanks so much for the time you've spent on this blog. I was laid off in Dec. after 30 years and really didn't see it coming. Stupid, I know. But I think that this time everyone sees it coming and at least can make plans and not be so totally blindsided. I hate seeing the insulting comments made about you, particularly the gay bashing. You have been my hero and I hope that you have great success in the future.

  20. Jim, thanks for running this blog. I started reading it before you revealed that you were behind it, and I have found it to be a great source of news about Gannett. I was laid off in December and have kept reading it, thinking of the friends and colleagues I left behind. Best of luck with your new effort.

  21. 3:57, only a sick, deranged person would talk like that on a day like this.

You should be ashamed for making such a suggestion. There are real people hurting out there, and you're suggesting terrible things.

Somewhere along the way, you forgot that this is a tragedy.

  22. "Somewhere along the way, you forgot that this is a tragedy."

    It's not.

Must be another person who won't work again.
