Warning: Management's trolls are out in force

[Rare brain X-ray! Trollus Corporateus]

They are now posting false information about me, on several comment strings. It's the old bullshit about my annual performance evaluations. I addressed those tired canards in a comment this morning.

I believe this is an effort to get me to resume moderating comments in advance. That would require that I stay up night (it's now 1:40 a.m. where I live.) The alternative: I would be required to stop your ability to post your own comments throughout the night and into the morning.

(Updated at 9:46 p.m.) I've figured out a compromise. I'll read comments in advance, to keep them at bay. So, there will be short delays in seeing your posts. On the plus side for yours truly: It saves me a lot of time in the morning: I won't be shoveling troll manure for hours -- something I just did, by deleting a bunch of 'em.

I won't give in. Unfortunately, that means they will trash some or all of the comment strings. I apologize for their inexcusable behavior under these terrible circumstances. But now you're seeing Corporate in all its shameful glory.

Please post your replies in the comments section, below. To e-mail confidentially, write gannettblog[at]gmail[dot-com]; see Tipsters Anonymous Policy in the green rail, upper right.

  1. Jim,
We all know by now the tactics they use, and we don't believe them. They are pathetic. The service you have provided has been invaluable to all of us. It took tremendous courage and resolve to do what you do, all while maintaining your dignity and honor. (I loved the quip about dropping a house on Gracia-Tara or whoever, LOVED IT!) Again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We sure will miss this blog when you are gone, but I'm sure I won't have a job anyway.

  3. Jim & Sparky: Thank you thank you thank you. This blog and all it's information have been the best thing that ever happened in the decade I've worked for Gannett. Best of luck to all!

  5. Jim: We're adults.
Don't sweat it, and get some sleep if you have to.
I suspect the vast majority of us just breeze right past the obvious crap.

  10. NEWS FLASH!!

2000 people are going to be out of work, and may never work in this field again.

And you are concerned about your performance reviews?

    THIS ISN'T ABOUT YOU, JIM.

    You're one sick individual -

Um, hello? The point here is that roughly 2,000 people will get laid off soon, and the "corporate trolls," as Jim calls them, are here trying to trash his rep. Jim's just apologizing for the fact that their stupid comments are even here at all, especially at this very bad time for the company and its employees.

  11. you forget, troll-fighter!

It was our shared fault when Jim missed something in a post that was wrong - so surely it can't be just HIS blog, right?

oh, yeah - this is a kinda murky area, I forgot...

but how does the self-centered-ness not pass muster?

  14. Actually, now you're seeing Jim, back after a strong cup of coffee. Here comes Senor Delete Key!

  15. Those who support corporate do so for their own selfish reasons. No one with an ounce of honor or who knows the difference between right and wrong could ever support corporate/management. Even if you don't like Jim, the great evil by far are the powers that ruin our lives and careers. Corporate America in general has driven this country into the ground.

It is possible not to support Corporate/whatever and still be able to see that Jim is not the Great I AM.

    You're right!

The post to which you responded was deemed unfit for human consumption!

And surprise, surprise! I called someone's perfection into question -

  18. Jim,

Honestly, we can survive til tomorrow to post. We don't need these idiots slamming this blog through out the night. Turn off the comments til tomorrow, cause I bet it will be an extremely busy day.

Thank you again for everything. You have showed all of us the side of Gannett all of us knew was there but hated to admit.

They are truly ruthless slugs and I cannot wait to get out of this company. I am ashamed to even say I work for such low life scum.

I won't forget that heartless e-mail that was sent out about DuBow. It was so self serving it makes me sick to my stomach.

These people are truly the bottom of the barrel. They are gay bashing, age discriminating low lifes that I hope get their just due one day. Negative energy will come back to them.

Thanks for standing up for the little people that made these idiots millions. They think of us as nothing more than a cost cutting measure.

I hope I get the job at the small family business, anything has to be better than having corporate think we are stupid idiots that believe their BS. It is insulting and demoralizing. So much for boosting morale.

    Please Gracia, no more e-mails.
We truly do not care how Craig is doing and for that matter, we don't care about your slick tactics to degrade this blog or to increase your stock price by disclosing to Wall Street cuts are coming. You are now officially exposed. We are on to your tactics.

  19. Jim,

The old GNS had a policy of no unnamed sources. I've always thought it a privilege to post anonymously on this blog about a company that wouldn't use anonymous sources in its own news service. You created an environment that deserves respect.

The "trolls" trying to stir up false claims here should remember their GNS forbears. The kinds of character assasinations they're lobbing here wouldn't be allowed in print by Mother Ship.

This blog has done a good job of raising the issues. That's how it should be. That's why it will be missed.

  20. Jim,
Just keep your cool these next few days. You're a professional journalist. The trolls aren't, and neither are many of the higer level people I once worked with at that miserable company.

Thanks again for the wonderful blog.

  21. 12:55:

How stupid are you? There have been dozens of character assassinations on Gannett employees here.

You have to be yet another person who was too dumb to work anywhere outside the newsroom.

  22. 4:47 - Thanks for your character assasination. You prove my point exactly. You now have my permission to remove your foot from your mouth. - 12:55

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
