WUSA | Three stations dive into pool's deep end
In another sign that the financially pressured industry is moving to reduce its costs, WUSA-TV is joining two other stations in launching a common newsgathering operation that will share daily footage, The Washington Post says today.

Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."

I've been waiting for Gannett to try this with some on-air talent across Gannett owned properties. Like, say, "regional weathermen" that appear on more than one Gannett station.
ReplyDeleteThis approach is not new. Several Philadelphia TV stations have been doing this for some time.
ReplyDeleteWhether this is new or not isn't the point. Just demonstrates how corporations don't really care about the uniqueness of content. News is no different than selling toilet paper.
ReplyDeleteThree stations in PHX have gone in a similar thing called the Local News Initiative. KPNX is not one of them.
ReplyDeleteThe Gannett station in Atlanta WXIA is trying this out with 2 other stations in the market for a one month trial. I suspect it will become permanent after that. The number one station in the market opted out and will continue to cover the news with their own staff. I guess now when people say the news looks the same on all the stations it won't just be their imagination.
