WTSP: After 16 years, anchor Matthews is out
The CBS affiliate in Tampa, Fla., didn't renew the contract of 16-year veteran anchor Marty Matthews, The Tampa Tribune says. Matthews had been co-anchor of the station's 4 p.m. 10 Connects newscast since it launched in 2002. The shift follows the appointment four months ago of Ken Tonning as the station's general manager.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."

The whole newsroom soon will be gone, as the plan now is to move Dr. Phil into the news timeslot. News viewership has been sagging anyway. Local news has become a thing of yester-year.
ReplyDeleteWord is rather than give her the ax at work, they sent someone over to her home to leave the pink slip at her door. Gotta' love Gannett's class!

Wasn't just a pink slip, it was a manilla envelope, left at her door.
ReplyDeleteStation managers say they could not reach her, she was on set M-F from 4-5pm everyday.
This is BS
Marty is a class act. I should know. I was involved in her hire at WTSP. But even more than that, Gannett's method of telling her she didn't have her job anymore is just another example of what kind of management the company has been operating with at virtually all levels. Business is business...we all understand that and sometimes tough decisions have to be made. But the lack of compassion and empathy shown by the way she was told is beyond anything that could reasonably be considered as acceptable management behavior.
