Florida Today sought candidates for one of its most important jobs: web producer/developer, responsible for virtually all aspects of the paper's website -- and the job pays shockingly little. Next, first-quarter net income plunged 60%, as CEO Craig Dubow warned Wall Street investors there's little sign of relief in this economically "extraordinary time." Finally, in a high-profile communique, one of the Gannett executives most likely to replace Dubow, 54, addressed speculation he's about to bolt. Yet, Chris Saridakis, 40 (inset), appeared to be sending a not-so-subtle message to the board of directors.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."

ReplyDeleteAnd how do you come up with that little gem you slipped into the copy today?
any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteDid you give him any suggestions? If so where?
Not me. Not written on this blog as far as I can remember. We are in the dark.
ReplyDeleteI really hope Saridakis does not "bolt".
ReplyDeleteI know many people think very highly of him and enjoy his candor.
7:15 pm: A couple words got dropped during an edit. It's now fixed.
ReplyDeleteAh, ha. So now you made it a contest. That is safer, IMHO, and I have no further quibbles.
ReplyDelete9:20 pm: No one's a shoo-in anymore.
ReplyDeleteJim,
ReplyDeleteDid we ever confirm that Saridakis is NOT leaving? I know he sent you that note, but when I re-read it, he does not confirm or deny his departure.
I actually think it is fairly bold of him to respond to you directly and not hide behind the corporate suits.
10:31 pm: You are an astute observer.
ReplyDeleteWhile Dubow , the pharoah, warns us that the locusts are coming with the economy, we the workers are still getting the brunt of the sacrifice while the other people are still living as George , the king, Bush was still president!
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I can't stand even the "smile" of this dago bastard and I don't even know him!
ReplyDeleteThe pejorative slang term for Italians is "dago.'' But I'm pretty sure Saridakis's surname is Greek.
ReplyDeleteYes, 8:01, if you are going to snidely slam, you need to get your pejoratives correct:

goatbanger? god, I love the Internet age.
ReplyDeleteUhhhh, folks, CS is barely running the digital division, so let's not get too excited about him running the entire company. That is why he has his boy JR there.
ReplyDeleteCS makes deals, that is how he made his fortune. The freshest cash on the top of his pile is from Gannett. He is not an operator. Never has been, never will be.
