  1. To provide context, one-bedroom apartments where this job is located rent for $500 to $600 a month -- or $6,000 to $7,200 annually -- according to recent Craigslist ads in the area.

  2. I'd say $75,000 per year. GCI has to pay higher salary for talent in this business due to outlook being so grim.

  3. my ass.

    THATS MY JOB!

    27K, before 2 furloughs.

  4. 2AdPro does it $20 an ad.

  5. Anyone with three years of experience doing javascript and php development would likely be making at least $45K to $60K in a medium market, and $60 to $75 in a big metro area. More than three years experience, they could earn much more.

  6. I made $25K in my first journalism job at a small family-owned paper, out of college, and that was almost a decade ago. This ad is demeaning to IT and Web staff. And you know what? In this economy, they'll get 500 applicants like *snap* that. Cheap-ass outfits like Gannett are in the driver's seat these days.

  7. 9:28 AM - Is correct.

  8. 10:02 is right, although I think 500 applicants is too many. I'd bet on 70 or 80.

They should all keep in mind that in my state you can make $20,436 a year on unemployment. Normally, you couldn't stay on it a full year, but with extensions it is now doable.

I'd hold out for awhile. If the economy turns around there will be companies that pay much more for someone with those skills.

  9. 12000 per month. Rupees, that is, about $250 American.

I don't see anything that would force the person to physically be in the office.

  11. That is ridi-effing-culous. I have a similar job in a different industry and get paid 70k

  12. Somebody who's been out of work for awhile might take that job just to put food on the table, but nobody would do a job like that, for that little pay, for very long. The person would start looking for the next job roughly five minutes after saying Yes to this one.

  13. Florida Today's web site is one of the pearls of Gannett, at least that's what we hear at our paper all the damn time, but when they pay these kinds of wages its small wonder they can hire so many people compared to the desperate few we have. You might do a survey Jim of how few poeple are really running the websites at each Gannett paper. If online is the future you;d never know it by staffing.

  14. Oh, you might be able to get someone for that price...but he/she is going to suck, because even in this market, people with those skills don't need to live on that kind of money.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Will they actually fill the position with a qualified candidate for that kind of money?

What happened to the whole "Publicus will eliminate our need for web programmers" deal?

  16. Web producers for $30k - sure.
    Add Photoshop - Maybe $35k
    Add Flash - $35 - 45k
Add SQL & PHP programming: $45k + up

And I'm talking on the low side.
Most of these start at $50k and up even in small (non Gannett) markets.

Demand for PHP/SQL programmers is very high.
