Not sure how much longer I'll be employed, so I figured I'd send the balance for the year while I have it. Please keep up with the scholarship and foundation-type news. Day-to-day management practices may suck, but in the current climate, people are often willing to overlook that stuff to focus on survival. But the unethical abuse of privilege is something that we should never tolerate.

Speaking of ethics, this from Knight Kiplinger in ,Kiplinger Magazine in an article on the ethics of furloughs:
ReplyDeleteI am assuming that the company absolutely needs to reduce labor costs in a time of real crisis -- unprofitability that is likely to last a while, rather than just a brief dip in a normal profit margin. I am also assuming that the belt-tightening began at the top of the company, with its owners. Dividends have been halted, along with executive bonuses. Everyone's pay has been frozen, nonessential spending cut, and perhaps fringe benefits trimmed.
If all that has been done and there is still a compelling need to economize more, many folks think the most ethical course is to impose a little pain on everyone and keep all employees in place to await a recovery.
Thw only real problem with this quote is the use of the word ethics. GCI corporate has no idea of the meaning of a word unless it includes selfish or arrogant. They do not believe they have to share any of the burden because they are leading this company into the promised land.
