ReplyDeletePoJo-ers, let's buy the paper from Gannett and fire up the presses. Any takers?????
ReplyDeleteAre the presses still in Elmira and Ithaca or have they been moved?
ReplyDeleteA section of the old Elmira press is part of a miniature golf course -- at least that's what I remember hearing. They bought the press used years ago and it went through a flood in 1972. It was on its last legs when the CNY press facility opened.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to move presses without knocking down buildings.
ReplyDeleteThe Star-Gazette building will be a municipal parking lot in less than five years.
ReplyDelete7:03...bet that it won't it take that long. How many employees will be left after the consolidation with Binghamton?
ReplyDelete@7:03 The land in Elmira isn't worth turning into a parking lot. Maybe Gannett can con the city into building a lacrosse arena on the site.
ReplyDeleteIt is sad
ReplyDeleteThe Star Gazette building is one of the few commercial buildings in downtown Elmira that isn't vacant, for sale, or half torn down. Even if it became a parking lot, who the hell would park there?
