What people say when they're not being journalists

"Sorry, but we are not going to comment on this.''

-- spokeswoman Tara Connell, in a Tucson Citizen story about Gannett closing off options to saving the paper by Corporate's March 21 deadline. How can Connell be considered for a top editing job, when she responds to legitimate questions in this manner?

  2. Gannett is not and never has been a journalism company. They are a marketing company that just happens to operate within the journalism industry.

  4. Gimme a break. I've seen newsroom editors refuse time and again to comment when being interviewed by their own reporters, so why wouldn't a PR person?
