Young Japanese tourists jostled with camera-toting, sixty-something hippies on pilgrimages yesterday afternoon, when I visited shops selling incense, "magic" crystals, and every manner of hand-crafted, artisanal bongs you can imagine -- all near the corner of Haight and Ashbury streets.
Stores in San Francisco and across California sell high-grade pot for medical use, under a measure voters passed in 1996; doctor's permission required. Indeed, Haight Street is home to one of San Francisco's better-known cannabis dispensaries: The Vapor Room. (Yelp gives it four stars -- although reviewer Eric P. of San Francisco groused, "The budtender was baked out of his mind.")
A Sno Ball's chance?
With less than a week before the end of the quarter, I've raised only $3,839 -- just 64% of my quarterly goal. Your donations are down 16% from the previous quarter. But ad sales have plunged 58%. That means your contributions account for 86% of my blog income -- making reader sponsorships more important than ever. The breakdown:
- Ad sales: $542
- Sponsorships: $3,297
I'm trying to earn $6,000 quarterly, mostly through sponsorships of $5 per reader, plus limited ad sales. Got munchies? Sno Balls don't come cheap! Please use the "Donate" tool in the green rail, upper right. Or mail cash/checks payable to: Jim Hopkins, 584 Castro St. #823, San Francisco, Calif., 94114-2594.
