Next: Dubow & Co. meet stock analysts today

That means Gannett could make news in advance of Corporate's presentation, at 12:45 p.m. ET today, before the March meeting of the Media and Entertainment Analysts of New York. Corporate is webcasting the event; I'm listening in. (Webcast details.)

  1. The stock is a penny stock and instead of the management team taking drastic measures, they say how they are positioned for the upturn in the economy, give me a break.
No wonder they are worth less than NYT.

  2. Reading about today's presentation, I do not like the sound of the words "clustering,'' "consolidations,'' "streamlined,'' and "logical partnerships.'' In NJ, that sounds like 150-250 people will keep their jobs and commute to Neptune, and the rest of us will be on the dole. I hope I'm wrong, of course.

  3. If Gannett did the clustering, consolidations, etc. that was done by other newspaper companies more than ten years ago, that would be one thing. But, to claim that's how they are moving forward seems too little too late.

The cluster that was created long ago in McLean is one that should be undone. And, given the support to date from that location, you really only need someone to count the coins coming in and that can be done at one of the regional newspaper hubs. The rest is really unneeded overhead.

  4. Why should anyone at Gannett strive for clear and open communication when the top person gets paid tons to talk like some kind of government official?

He says absolutely nothing over and over.

  5. I wish I had a buck for every time someone said the word "transformation" during the presentation.

  6. Jim, where in the hell is your post on the call today? Folks are freaking out in newsrooms across the Midwest. Is the Interstate Group (Indy, Louisville, Nashville, Cincy) going to have one giant copy desk or not? Can someone lend a hand here?

  7. I'm working on a separate post right now.

At the moment, yes: I heard that reference to the Interstate group, and the mention of a regional copy desk.

But I'm not yet convinced that was anything more than an example -- rather than a reflection of something actually in the works.

Still: What does anyone else hear? They've got some sort of super copy desk in Wisconsin. How's that going?

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
