Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."

ReplyDeleteDude, relax.
ReplyDeleteIt's a blog.
You gotta get out more.
As long as that mentakity exists -- that it is OK to spread misinformation for the sheer joy of it, and to spread hate and vitriol --it will point up why the Internet should never replace newspapers and other mainstream media.
ReplyDeleteCopy edit -- mentality,,,
ReplyDeleteNewsflash: The Internet IS the mainstream.
ReplyDeleteNow go wash the ink off your hands.
Wasnt Donovan on furlough?

ReplyDeleteNot a personal attack-- just an observation. In the CN/HNT we are treated to the vitriol of the associate editor's column. It is in response to the letter from a reader who ojbected to the fact that OUR associate editor finds it a violation of his rights to be asked to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance-- or for the National Anthem to be dedicated to our first responders-- at sporting events! The anger is tangible! This is how we are allowing paid Gannett employees to treat the readers who still pay to read our newspapers. There were certainly 50 better ways to respond!
ReplyDeleteI am wondering to what degree Affirmative Action is responsible for the tirades in print.

ReplyDeleteErnie and all others: We've spent a lot of time talking about Clobber-related stuff; I'm glad you've had a chance to share your views.
ReplyDeleteBut we do not need to discuss this issue any longe on Gannett Blog; it is completely played out. Thank you, and please keep coming back here to discuss other Jersey-specific issues.

ReplyDeleteI can't beleive I did not look at this blog for one week and ernie continues to whine about his woes! A week ago I asked him to tell the truth about trying to go out on disability for a back injury before this happened. He is looking to Gannett to pay his bills for life.
ReplyDeleteOne week later. Ernie, all I can say is get a life. And folks, a week ago the story was NJ Today and furloughs. None of which happened. I think I won't be stopping back here again because no one really knows the truth.
Thank you Jim for making thr Ernie show end. Appreciate it.

ReplyDeleteWould that be that snake EE or one of his cronies?
the saturday assoc editor column is an embarrassment. i cant believe i work for that paper.
ReplyDeleteWhat about name change
ReplyDeleteI like Bill, or John. But really I think I'd like to keep my name.
ReplyDelete12:48: It's not the Internet, per se. It's the fact that folks like us are allowed to post anonymously. I know the point of allowing anonymous posts is to protect us, but as long as it's allowed, you will have stupidity, hate and vitriol.
ReplyDeleteI personally believe that the news sites should require all posters to use their real names. We require it for letters to the editor, why not online? This way, we wouldn't have to endure the idiotic comments we get when we post a story about a kid who was killed in a car wreck, for example.
If someone has a tip for a reporter, then they can send it through the mail, or make a phone call, like they used to do. Don't need to have that out for all to see.
