Prichard: 'Your source is unreliable. I'm retired'

From a this-just-in e-mail exchange with recently retired Freedom Forum President Peter Prichard (left), regarding recent speculation about his next move.

Q. "Are you planning to rejoin USA Today? If so, in what capacity?"

A. "Your source is unreliable. I'm retired. Good luck with the story."

  1. The good news: Now I know the Freedom Forum brass will answer some of my questions -- if not directly and succinctly.

  2. The power of crowd sourcing lives again!

What a ridiculous event. Three days of people speculating about who the "senior" editor will be, teases and winks, and then the whole thing evaporates.

The only lesson here is never trusting that "source'' again because everyone at Usa Today knew Peter P. was not going to come back.

Maybe Jim should have filed the whole thing under "Things I do to Increase My Traffic.''

But another lesson that just because it is in the blog does not mean it is so.

I say, some of us are smart enough to separate the wheat from the chaff here; I believed what I read about layoffs and furloughs here, for example, and "knew" it was coming.
As journalists, we should be able to tell when someone is spewing crap.

  5. Well, that was a terse response.

Wonder what Miss Manners would think ...

  6. There's something a little odd about this response, given that my question required only a yes or no reply. My antenna is now up even higher.

  7. Why is it that newspaper hawks are the worst when it come to being the source of reporting?

  8. Hey! Guessing was FUN.
Some of the suggestions were funny.
If it isn't PP, then we can start guessing again.
It doesn't have to be real. People on this blog just don't have much fun. Give us some wacky parameters and turn us loose.
    Let the game begin!

  9. Could it be he's coming out of retirement to join USA Today in a consulting capacity?

  10. What a joke and a waste of time. Guessing the news now? That's for the opinion pages.

By the way, 12:37, it is eay to seperate the wheat, etc. because it's mostly chaff these days and very little wheat.

  11. D'ya think they considered this idea, and abandoned it after it was ridiculed by premature exposure on this blog. Maybe crowdsourcing works?
