Mystery: My newest video zooms to the top

Posted just a week ago, For Sarah is the shortest -- 23 seconds -- of the two-dozen videos I've made, as I learn this new format. The birthday surprise has quickly become my most-viewed. (No. 2: what a Wall Street analyst learned on this blog.)

I think I know why For Sarah got so popular. What about you?

  1. Guess #1: You have a VERY large family.

Guess #2: Sarah has a LOT of friends.

Guess #3: A lot of Sarahs born on that day got sent a link to the video in lieu of a birthday card.

  2. I never get tired of watching it.
    Simple.
    Beautiful.
    Obviously crafted with great love.
But mostly, because it is ...
    Just so darned SWEET!
Shows a whole 'nother side of you, Jim.

  3. I would like to tell you the story behind this video -- what I was thinking, when I turned away, and blew out the candle. But that is a story that I might not ever be able to tell.

  4. I am assuming your sister is no longer with you Jim. I am very sorry for your loss. She was born the same year as myself and a fellow Aquarian.

  5. 5:19: I am happy to report my sister is alive and well, and was amused by this video. Thank you, for your kindness.

I am reminded, however, of the downside of blogging even a little about my personal life. Things happen that are hard to share even with family and friends. They are harder, still, when you've constructed a life inside a fishbowl.

  6. It's simply beautiful and obviously truly heart felt. I think it also shows that you have a kind and beautiful soul.

  7. My theory: The "teaser" that appears before you click to play is just a date. Usually it's a picture of you, and we know you're going to talk, but this one was different, so we had to click to find out why.

  8. I wanna play.

It was short. Or it was enigmatic and people replayed it trying to get the meaning. Or both?

  9. A man of mystery ...
    Unwilling to reveal his secrets.
First, keeping a customer service script close to your vest.
Second, the reason you turn away in the video turning back to blow out the candle.
I hope Sarah enjoys the Happy Birthday video as much as we have.

  10. I am very happy to hear your sister is still with you. It was the slight turn from the candle that made me feel there was something very deep that none of us could truly understand. I interpeted it as a loss. Apparently I was not correct.

Yes, it is best to keep your own life private and Gannett's life public.
