Across the nation, temperatures are higher exactly where you'd expect them to be in early January, according to USA Today's weather map at 2:45 p.m. ET: It's warmest in the southeast and especially in Florida, where Gannett employs hundreds.
In San Francisco at mid-day, the sky was cobalt blue behind the marquee of our neighborhood's famous Castro Theatre (left). The local weather forecast is for sun and temps in the high 60s -- a perfect excuse to spend less time blogging. But I'll stay on top of e-mail, so keep those comments coming.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
