The Onion: Employee furloughs 'quite a pickle'
In a spoof of man-on-the-street interviews, the humor publication today includes made-up product controls consultant Rex Kelley reacting to Gannett's real-life furloughs thusly: "Let's just tell all the world leaders, terrorists, scientists, executives, artists, athletes, celebrities, and people of local interest to take the week off, too, so we don't have to worry about missing any news. Although, that would kind of be a news story in itself. This is turning into quite a pickle."

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."

Man, Jim. I hope you and Sparky don't get any bright ideas and jump on the furlough bandwagon. Imagine a week without Gannettblog.
ReplyDeleteWe should shutter the entire industry for a week. Show the people who don't need newspapers just how much their Google, their Yahoo and their television newspaper readers actually do to promote journalism.
ReplyDeleteNot a good idea, anon 5:22. They would then realize just how much we're not needed.
ReplyDeleteI love The Onion! Can I just work there instead of Gannett?
