Nashville: Suspicious package delays printing

Delivery of The Tennessean and three other papers was delayed today after the Nashville paper's building was evacuated for three hours last night when employees found a package with suspicious contents. Police and the city's bomb squad examined the package; no explosive device was found, but a substance in the package was considered "suspicious,'' though not a threat, the Tennessean said today. The other three papers affected were USA Today, The Daily News Journal of Mufreesboro, and The Leaf-Chronicle of Clarksville.

  1. Well it just goes to show that consolidating printing plants doesn't always work out to be the most efficient and secure way to operate.
And so soon after the consolidation of other printing operations, too.
It doesn't take much for cost cutting plans to go astray. Eggs in one basket, and all that stuff.

  2. The suspicious content was a Tennessean from ten years ago with actual news on it.

No one could believe that a paper so big with so much news would actually be produced, so the cops were called immediately....

As with garage-found WWII grenades, the old Tennessean was taken to a remote location and detonated safely.
