Dec. traffic: In a first, page views exceed 500K

The three most clicked-on December posts:
December brought record traffic amid a big layoff, and historic home-delivery changes in Detroit -- continuing a roller-coaster trend driven by news. Unique visitors (a tricky metric) more than doubled, to 63,083, from November's totals. Visits jumped to 219,616 from 128,477. And page views soared to 541,515 vs. 237,534.

Context: Gannett employs up to 46,000. Plus, top media industry blogger Jim Romenesko nabs 100,000 individual visitors a day.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
