  1. Please don't be teasing us, Jim! Even if you just post big news/tips whenever you hear something, that'd help. I wish you had come back a few weeks ago so USAT/USAW people would have had info about what was about to happen there. I don't know how much info had been shared on Gannettoid, either, about the Q1 furloughs for everyone else.

  2. There was and is plenty of good, timely information and comments about furloughs on Gannettoid!

  5. Jim,
My colleagues and I have repeatedly had conversations wondering why Gannettoid's site has not been filled with all the hate and garbage that spewed forth from people on your site. We loved your site, (I like Gannettoid's too and I am registered there) but we could never understand such hatred. Do you think it was the workers on their own or do you think there other forces behind it? You were a threat to Gannett with all your sources, and we believe that is why there was so much garbage slung at you. Do you think so, also? I live in a rural community where your lifestyle is not accepted, and even here I have never seen such hate flung at anyone.

  6. 8:59 p.m.: I could speculate for hours, but it would be little more than that: speculation. I wish it hadn't happened. In any case, that's all in the past; I've moved on.

  7. Hey Jim!
Great to see you back in whatever capacity! I'll be coming back here to see what is new, plus checking Gannettoid! It's nice to see an an ole familiar face we like to think of as our friend!

  8. Jim:

You don't have to post this, but I am so glad that you've kept the comment moderation on... now, we can come to the site for real news, and not have to wade through all of the crap. I think you put up with a lot... but keeping it clean here is wonderful.

    Well done, and welcome back.

  9. Hi Jim,glad U came back to visit.Gannett is still sucking the soul from its employees. It seems they are making a profit but they keep axing employees to make more. The Couier Journal has been run into the ground by these fuckers, now they want wage cuts from the remaining employees.Thank the good lord I got laid off first and found employmeent quickly but most people r really starting to feel the effect now that the transitional pay is ending.Sorry bout the rant I just hate the fuckers, glad U R well hope U stay awhile until the fuckers finally give up in 2011. PEACE

  11. Jim: Your Ibiza blog appears to have been a total flop. How about telling us all what happened?

  12. 8:51 a.m.: The gay media market is more crowded than I anticipated, including within the narrow niche I targeted. It's also consolidating: witness the recent failure of the Washington Blade and associated titles, plus problems at the Advocate. I'm unwilling (right now) to spend the extra start-up money needed to be competitive.

  13. Sorry the Ibiza blog didn't work out. Was afraid something happened since there were no new postings there but am relieved and happy you're ok. You've been sorely missed, and I wish if I had a job for you, I'd hire you in a split second.

  14. On a happier note, it is good to see Gannett stock rising into the teens.

  15. Good grief - positive sentiment towards Gannett? This is, indeed, possibly a new day for this blog.

It always amazes me how everything thinks Gannett treats employees so badly when they are just doing what all public copmpanies are doing.

Say Jim: is there money to be made here since there apparently isn't in Ibiza?

  16. So, Jim, what are you doing now, and where are you living? Very sorry your Ibiza site did not work out.

Welcome back, by the way, in whatever form you choose to employ to keep us abreast of news in Gannett land.

  17. Hi Jim,

Welcome back and please don't run off again because Gannett tried to intimidate you! That's their method and let's face it: one against a media mogul - that seems more than unfair. But in September a little justice came to pass and will cost Gannett a pretty penny: Susan Ihne won her lawsuit against them! Good for her!

Sources tell Ashvegas that former Asheville Citizen-Times Editor Susan Ihne has settled her wrongful termination lawsuit against newspaper Publisher Randy Hammer and the newspaper's parent company, Gannett Co.

Unfortunately, the people remaining there have to foot the bill from this settlement: Furloughs for the next two quarters (or are the furloughs paying for the bonuses for all the VPs, SVPs, Presidents or whatever else runs around with a fancy title trying to save the company from collapse?)!

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
