  3. Well here it is Christmas Day; my co-workers are home (they requested days off); we're short on personnel; all the carriers are out, I'm here all alone (ON MY DAY OFF). My FRAUDULENT TIMESHEET shows I'm not here.....I must be a figment of my own imagination.

I understand my co-workers want to be with their families, so I'm doing this for them NOT FOR GANNETT.

We're expecting more carriers to quit over the next few weeks, hopefully the routes will get new carriers; because I'm NOT DONATING UNPAID ILLEGAL OVERTIME ANYMORE. No more (against the company manual) reqests to work OFF-THE-BOOKS. I'm getting laid off anyway, so why bother to "Pull for the Team."

I'm thinking about how Gannett is no longer a newspaper company and is transforming into an information company. I hope others are too so we can have a positive 2009.

The problem is GANNETT isn't putting any relavent information in their products (print or online).

Idled Journalist/Editor, I.T., Ad Design people; we may be able to put together an entity that allows you the Freedom (without the corporate bullshit) to fully express & develop you talents. I'm dreaming of a Co-Operative News/Information Entity with a truly Innovation Condusive GOOGLE-LIKE Business Culture.

Merry Christmas & Hope for a successful New Year.

  11. Although I an no longer a Gannettoid, having been let go in August, I still hold dear all the memories of my years in the newspaper business and cherish the times, both good and bad that I experienced. To those of you that shared those times with me, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will never forget you.

Jim, thanks for all you've done for us.

To everyone that reads this; Merry Christmas and for God's sake, have a happy new year in 2009!

  12. I received a telephone call from someone I worked with at the newspaper I was employed by. I hadn't heard from him since I made the long walk out the employee entrance. I wondered how he was doing.

It was a nice, very simple, caring gift. He said he was just wondering how I was doing and that things there weren't the same now.

It made me feel good. This was a good Christmas.

  13. Merry Christmas, Jim. And thanks for all that you do.

I was laid off in December, and can't afford to spare a penny.

But some day when I am gainfully employed, I promise to donate to you to help keep this blog going. It has been very therapeutic for me.

It will probably help someone else, as it has me.

  14. I'm manning (personing) our "information center" this Christmas morning. My kids are grown and in their own homes. I visited one branch last weekend and will the other this weekend, so I don't mind holding down the fort at work while my younger colleagues stay at home with their families on this special day.

However, I am old enough to miss one Christmas tradition in newsrooms of yore: the "Jingle Bells" rhythm tapped by the teletype operators on Christmas, along with the elaborate designs (Christmas trees, Santa and his reindeer, etc.) printed out on the long rolls of teletype paper on the usually quiet holiday.

    Ah, the good ole days....

Ha! There's already an Information company!
It's called "Bloomberg Information Network" where I get the majority of my news from everyday! Oh! ...um ...and Jim's blog of course :) No way will I switch from Bloomberg Information Network to Gannett. They aren't even in the same league.
    Merry Christmas, Everyone!

  16. Information company? I don't think so. Looks to me like it's going heavy into consumer/marketing research.

  17. And the Pew survey says: More people get their news online than in print.

  19. Holiday cheer from New Jersey: The C-N publishes Somerset County sheriff's sales every Thursday. Today one such notice jumped from C section to D section ... with no jump lines.

    Season's Greetings to all.

  20. So, who is working on a class action Gannett lawsuit about overtime? Anyone? I am ready to join.

  21. A holiday treat from the Westchester NY website. One of their main features on the site is a video of a fireplace burning. It is posted on the site for those people who do not have fireplaces so they can let the video play and enjoy. Here is an intro:

No fireplace? No problem! Not everyone can have a real fireplace in their home or apartment, but anyone can light up LoHud's Holiday Log.

Who comes up with this shit? This is for the idiot that says Gannett is transforming into an information company.

  22. Could be worse, 11:58 - could have been a Mogulus feed of Cherry Hill's Christmas Log... right there on the restroom floor....

  23. Yea, right, I will join in with your frivolous suit, lawyer yo yo. It is sickening reading all your posts. Please post your venom somewhere else.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
