I'm reading comments before publication again

A spammer has returned, requiring me to stay up much too late this morning, deleting dozens of his comments, plus responses to his comments, etc. So, I'm back to reading comments in advance again. I'm sorry about the delay this will cause, and I hope it won't last long. But this is the downside of my allowing anonymous posts.

  1. Wonderful job all day Jim! Long week ahead for sure.

  2. Wonderful. Leave it to RKnil. People can ruin anything. Thanks for hanging in there, Jim.

  3. Thanks, Jim. Sorry a few are causing you extra grief.

You are doing a great service for thousands of folks and we appreciate it.

  4. Bridgewater-East Brunswick totaled 51, including about 15 positions held open since the circulation/IT layoff.

  5. Hey Jim,
Thanks for trying to keep the spam at bay - most of us know to just move past anything with his name on it...I was reading it at first - then I realized what was going on and just moved on every time I saw his name.

Thanks, though for your efforts - I know it's so draining to deal with these jerks.

    Peace.

  7. This is too bad -- isn't there a way to block spammers?
I'm a techo neophyte, just seems there should be a way.
Thanks for this web site, BTW. I worked for a Gannett paper 30+ years ago as an intern - and it didn't drive me from the news business (right away!). Also knew lots of Gannettoids when I was in the Guild.
    God bless ya all!

  8. Keep doing what you have to do Jim. Sorry you have to babysit the blog this way.

  9. I watched that develop yesterday: please, people, do not respond to trolls. Responding to mentally deranged people only feeds their need for more attention. DO NOT FEED TROLLS.

  10. Hey Jim, random idea. With everyone that's been laid off in the last couple days, why don't you try soliciting a volunteer moderator? Everyone is just sitting around reading your blog this week anyway, and I'm sure you're about exhausted by now. Obviously you'd have to figure out a way to vet them...

  11. Sorry. I was responding to rknil yesterday. Once I realized I was getting nowhere and that he's a spammer, I chose to stop engaging him. Sorry if my participation ruffled any feathers, that wasn't my intent!

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
