Markets pounded, GCI plunges in early trading

The company's shares recently traded for $8.57, down 10% -- more than erasing the boost Gannett stock got when the company announced it would slash thousands of jobs in a mass layoff set for early next month. Today's dive came amid an overall plunge in global stock prices.

Gannett stock closing prices:
  • Oct. 27 (day before big layoff announced): $9.13
  • Oct. 28 (day of announcement): $10.22
  • Nov. 4: (highest price since announcement): $12.34
