Countdown: Just 40 days left, will Dubow deliver?

From CEO Craig Dubow's annual letter to shareholders, Feb. 28, 2008: "Our executive team has great talent, intellect and belief in the power of Gannett. Our employees tell us they are ready to go. 2007 helped put all the pieces in place; 2008 will see it through. I assure you, you will see great progress."

  • Gannett stock closing price Feb. 28: $30.23
  • Yesterday's close: $6.32

  1. Will he deliver? I'm going out on a limb here ... but my guess is no.

  2. "Our employees tell us they are ready to go."

So we're firing them, and telling them to go. I call that 'delivered as promised.'

  3. There are just some people that are not right for the job.

Craig Dubow, you are not fit to be the CEO of Gannett.Times have changed since McCorkingdale made a bad decision to back you as the CEO. We will forgive you for being thrown into a role that you were never qualified to do. Unfortunately, we will not forgive that shady short character McCorkingdale.

Mr. Dubow if you want to make everyone happy, even our shareholders, you would resign today. I guarantee people will be happier and our stock would explode.

And while you are leaving, you can also take with you Gracia "the Knife" Martore.

  4. 6:20: Excellent post.

Dubow (he's not worthy of an honorific): In addition to Gracia, please take Craig Moon, Ken Paulson, Tara Connell and all your other 'yes men' with you. That would be one hell of a Christmas present.

  6. I stumble on this blog about Gannett and what do I find.... people complaining about a company that they work(ed) for. Wow, innovative. Maybe I just answered why nobody is reading the other stuff you write online or the old-fashioned way. Mr. Hopkins....it may very well be time for you to move on. I am not in the newspaper business, but you folks have got to stop obsessing on this thing and start new lives. Good luck, and have a great session.

I wouldn't count on a pledge from 9:09 AM! (But you got a click!)

  8. The entire Management Committee needs to go. Shame on the Board of Directors.

  9. Yes. Shame on the board of directors. You'd think they'd set higher expectations for leadership.

  10. The board of non directors needs to go, too. We just added two more Dubow cronies at a combined cost of more than $100,000 a year. FOR WHAT??????????????????????/
