I told Sparky that I'm trying a new tactic: Instead of seeking subscriptions randomly, I'm now fishing for them after I've done what I think is better-than-average work. (Good luck with that, Sparky said.)

Consider seeking grants from the Knight Foundation and the Pew Trust.
Then have a little fun: Ask for a grant from the Freedom Forum.
And finally ask Allen H. Neuharth, John J. Curley, Douglas C. McCorkindale and John C. Quinn to join your "First Amendment Club" and kick in $500 a piece.
Mike Gartner always liked to raise a little hell; he ought to be good for a few hundred bucks, too.
