I no longer get any company-wide messages from CEO Craig Dubow (left) to the 46,000 employees, seeking to reassure them at a time when Gannett is buffeted by more threats on more fronts than ever before. Such notes are customary at companies facing big, scary changes. And their tone is personal; they don't read like a statement crafted by a committee of lawyers"Dear Colleague,'' they say. "Many of you are worried about current financial problems in the U.S. economy, and the impact they may have on our company. Today, I'm writing to assure you that we are doing everything we can to . . . "
Comforting words don't have to be delivered by e-mail, of course. Many CEOs know to get out of their office and into the field, greeting the troops in person, where they work. When time's critical and operations far-flung, they resort to an online video -- a technology of growing importance to Gannett.

maybe he knows we wouldn't believe a damn word of anything he said . . . unless it was an apologetic resignation that gave back some of what he's looted from gci.

ReplyDeleteIt would matter to me if we heard something from Craig Dubow. A mere word of empathy or encouragement would be an honorable approach from the CEO. After all that so many of us have given to Gannett, a word of true concern from Dubow would be welcome. Whether or not we would believe a word he says is another story.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sorry bunch of bastards we have allowed to "lead" us. Even the sorry management in the North Jersey Group has been a little better than the thieves in Corporate.
The only letters he seems to be sending these days are on pink paper slip. He's too busy with these to talk to the rest who are still employed (at the moment). Hell, Im still waiting on my letter about my retirement. I cant re-invest it until I get my letter from Gannett. They told me that they were backlogged with such letters and it would be a few weeks. Hmmmm, looks like Gannett is in the business of buyouts and not papers.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we'll get lucky and he's been busy packing up his office. If that's the case maybe Gannett will have a chance (Well, not so much Gannett but the people who give a damn about what they're doing and have given their all for years will have a chance).

Craig doesn't care about Gannett. What he cares about is making another 7.5 million again this year. Worse year every for gannett and CEO makes 7.5 million. And MG she looks like a frog. She made 3.5 million last year. All Craig is waiting for know is the golden parachute.
