  2. Word recieved from one of the 100...someone (who was) in the know...The next round of layoffs, at least at our site, coming in October. Several firings of late in Advertising seem to foreshadow who may be hit.

  3. "At least at our site" and just which site are we talking about? Or at least tell us what state? And, do you know if this will be nationwide layoffs again?

  4. Exactly, 6:11. WTF? Don't post wild bulls_it rumors and not even tell us what state you're in. People are jittery enough, we don't need this blog becoming filled with stupid rumors from bitter exiters without more concrete details.

  5. Funny thing: Daily Record laid off graphic artists in the last round. Today they are advertising for temporary seasonal graphic artists. Would that read: "no benefits?"

  7. This is all b.s. and not backed up by anything, but what is going to happen to GCI in the coming months as this financial crisis grips? GCI is one of the companies that boasts it made it through the Depression, but this financial crisis looks quite different. What happens to the stock investments bought-out GCI employees made of their buy-out money, and what will be the reaction of our communities as the contraction begins when the bad loans are written down? This is not going to help Gannett community papers get ads in the coming Christmas season, so what will be the impact on employee paychecks? The business model of newspapers is as broken as the New York investment banks, but there will be no bailout for us. I can't help feeling even more depressed looking at this picture I am seeing.

  8. Idiots ... Start looking for another job today. Why is it that every person in the newsroom believes that the next round will not affect them. If your over 30 and making a good wage, your toast. Newspapers as we know them will be dead in two years.
    Gannett papers a little sooner.
Start looking for a job now! What is it with Journalist? Spoiled and lazy! GET OUT AND FIND ANOTHER JOB!!

  11. i'm wondering

in the deer valley press room of the az rep it seems that the bosses don't care what goes wrong or whether it gets fixed they just care that they have a name to put on the write up (blame). it is the same corp wide or is it just us.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
