  2. WHAT! JIM, no ask ,"TARA!" Bring it back. Don't you realize, that Tara is lonely. She sitting in her office all day, hoping the phone rings. That someone would ask her a question about Gannett. The poor old boring newspaper business, that does not seem to be doing anything, to makes news.

  3. The grapevine that twists & turns around the mangled vine that is known as the NJ paper group, has blossomed a new one: that the APP is no longer using 2AdPro and has signed up or is signing up with another company for outsourcing the ad production. Any more info out there? Your compatriots want to know, thanks!!

  4. Has anyone heard how the price increase to 75 cents has gone? Are any other papers planning on doing this?

  5. This is not a big deal but corporate has taken over paying correspondents and stringers. Today is the scheduled day for those checks to be deposited in the writers' banks, which was never missed when handled locally.

Guess what? Today's check? NOT THERE!! Maybe Monday, they said. Who knows.

Like I said, not a big deal but everything corporate touches turns to s**t!

    But Corporate right or wrong!!!!

  7. Random survey: How old are your AP Stylebooks? We're pushing four years at ours.

  8. AP stylebook committee disbanded last year. Web publishing means nobody needs no stinkin style.

  9. We signed up for the online version two years ago. Back in 2003 we had purchased the electronic version, which was a bunch of java files hosted on an internal web server. I still miss the old hardcopy versions.

  10. @12:45 - Dinosaur. I would not admit that out loud.

  11. 8:51am,about the 2adpro. I know they signed up with AOS (American Outsourcing) which is a company in Pennsylvania because it wasn't going so well with 2adpro (go figure!). Apparently, it's going very well with AOS and it is suppose to be user friendly, meaning they would eventually get rid of the designers.

  12. So I heard from a newsroom worker there that at a big meeting yesterday, Lovely said that the AZ Republic won't be laying anyone off.

  13. Interesting thing about jersey newspapers going with a different ad outsource. I can wait to see how much people complain about this one. With it being in the USA, I wonder what people will bitch about.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Indeed, the Republic's 28 retirees from the early retirement offers was enough to stave off a layoff from the newsroom for now. However, we were told we had to hope for the economy and revenue to rebound in the near future. We also were told he had no information on other departments and what they might do about reducing personnel.

As long as we continue to cut positions that generate revenue we will continue to see declines in revenue. Plus, they will NEVER let us bring back what we lost. We will just hire more bodies at corp or the regional sites, but more non-profitable online tools and give bigger raises to to CEOs,

  16. ANON 1:52: Get a life!! If people want to vent after losing their job to outsourcing, let them. I'm sure your job is real safe until they figure out a way to outsource ass-kissing

    ReplyDelete
  17. Rumor around the Republic is that the ad department will be cutting 30 percent of its staff. Ad people will need to make a presentation to justify keeping their jobs. But, as I said, that's just a rumor.

    ReplyDelete
  18. 5:52, wouldn't you love to see the people who make others reapply for jobs have to reapply to their STAFFS to be able to keep theirs?

think maybe if that were possible, if "grading" went both ways, that more gci supervisers would suddenly discover the golden rule?

  19. Anyone left at the Republic would be insane to trust what Lovely's telling them. The next step in this process is to begin managing-out. Don't worry: the managers themselves are already in the hot seat. Be on the lookout for "join us in congratulating XX XXX as he takes on the new challenge of XXX." I feel sorry for the chumps left there.

  20. Anyone hear anything about there being more cuts in circulation and marketing at the Republic?

  21. The latest "un-&%$&*@$#-believable moment in Cherry Hill:

Today, the Philly Daily News (which distributes throughout South Jersey) began running USA Weekend in its Friday edition--a day (subscriber) and two days (single copy) before the Courier-Post puts it out.

    Wait for the punchline...

No one in Cherry Hill--including the EE-- had any clue about the News' deal until today!!!

    Pathetic

  22. @10:56pm: OMGWTFBBQ. But good for USA Weekend, right?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Good news for Philly readers!

Good news for USA Weekend, a new customer and more eyes.

Now what is the problem here?

    ReplyDelete
  24. 9/5/08 5:52 PM: Yes-us reps have to turn in a presentation to justify our jobs. I don't work downtown so I don't always get the full scoop, but my manager told me specifically that if do not have a compelling presentation or it does not result in any revenue-you are on the list! My manager told me that! So now people are faking it.
