    We thought that, too at The Arizona Republic. It's hard however for a company such as Gannett to do anything but. They have had such success in the past from squeezing the blood from the turnip (read that: production and circulation depts.) that it's only natural for them now to cannibalize their newsrooms before they would even think about cannibalizing their own corporate pocketbooks. Makes perfect sense to the corporate raider.

    It's been going on, slowly at times, more rapidly at others, in Des Moines since 1985. What is more baffling is that nearly everyone would agree that the Register, the C-J and the Detroit News were the three "best" newspapers in the group, and yet hardly any of the talent that helped make that so has been tapped to help lead the company.

    Des Moines and Louisville were not just the "best in Gannett" but among the best anywhere.

    And you seem so mad that you are unable to acknowledge that many Gannett journalists are top-notch and do outstanding work.

    I'm sorry for you and your bitterness.
