"You corporate goons are the real pricks."
-- an anonymous Gannett Blog reader, rising to yours truly's defense, as I prod Corporate to disclose details of today's big layoffs.
An independent journal about the Gannett Co. and the news industry's digital transition
Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."

so the workers are forced to sit back_and_wait_play the guessing game on who & where? that's total bullshit. tell us already ya fuks. maybe i'll actually be able to enjoy a weekend for once in about 15 years.
ReplyDeleteNice job, Jim. This just adds to the credibility of your reporting and this blog. You scooped everyone. Sad that we who are still within Gannett need to find out important news from outside sources, but that's just the way of big business these days. Now we're all waiting to watch the spinning. Meetings are bound to follow. Same old stuff.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I missed an entire night's sleep -- but it was worth it!

ReplyDeleteIT'S A TRAP!
I'm sorry for going slightly off-topic, but when it comes to the Death Star and Gannett, it seriously feels just like we're falling into a trap.
I was the one who made the 'prick' comment, which I already regret because I'm usually a fan of the stuff here and it was just unnecessarily mean. I don't work for Corporate; the next axe that swings could be the one that hits me.
ReplyDeleteI just saw Jim calling out Corporate for not responding to a 11:30 p.m. e-mail by 9:30 a.m. (the intervening hours are mostly what we call "overnight") and thought that was just bully-ish. Jim responded with, "Thanks, Tara!" And then, based on the evidence, I was possessed by a demon (grin). My apologies.
Agreed! And I was being a bit of a prick, anyway.
ReplyDeleteScrew all of you. We need to layoff more than 1,000 employees. This company is bloated!!!
ReplyDeleteLet's start with you, 3:52. ;)
ReplyDeleteTo 3:52 pm....
ReplyDeleteThe biggest blessing of all would be to clean out corporate and get rid of all those people who do little and the many are there because it is politically correct. You know, they have to meet their quotas and bloat the place. And, then there are the so-called executives, most of whom are completely brain dead and march to any tune played on high by Dubow and his band of incompetent idiots. Why in the world are the stock holders putting up with all of this for so long??? That's the biggest question of them all.
If board members read the "these people" layoff memo guidelines from corporate, and if they don't take action by insisting that author be fired, something is dreadfully wrong. Come on. Isn't communication Gannett's speciality? Customers notice the little things, you know.
