Reader: Health insurance axed without notice

Regarding the Chapman Kelly health insurance audit designed to root out relatives ineligible for coverage, a reader tells me in an e-mail: "You might want to query readers whether they’ve had any problems with their benefits audits. I know we’ve had problems here and a relative of mine (I’m being intentionally vague here) was dropped from my benefits package without notification although I am legally obligated to provide those benefits."

  2. The company here gave me two monthly warnings from "Nazi germany"........oops I mean chapman kelly and still hasn't kicked any of my three family members off the insurance! Sounds like they were relying on the scared sheepish conformity of the employees....bbaaaaaa bullshit! NO sheep here!I really don't like them nor their insurance and am still waiting to get kicked off to this day!

  3. The biggest issue I had with the Chapman Kelly audit was providing such personal information to a third party. Reluctantly I did, and there were no issues / concerns with what was submitted or the timeliness. Hopefully, we won't have to do this every year.

  4. I had issues with Chapman Kelly saying they never got my fax, even though I had sent it more than once and assumed it was OK. I got a letter in the mail a month later saying they never got it. It's all resolved now, but it was a pain. I think their operation is a bit disorganized.

  5. I took no chances with Chapman Kelly -- just as I take no chances with any of the important stuff with Gannett. I mailed mine certified mail, return receipt requested. That way there was no claim that it wasn't received or wasn't received in time. This was all about them being weasels, just as they were when they instituted the spousal surcharge and had vague wording on the benefits selection paperwork that, if you overlooked it or answered it wrong, would have stuck you with paying the surcharge when you didn't have to.

  6. I have had no problems. Thanks for asking.

  7. I sent Chapman-Kelly what they wanted within the deadline and they rejected it with contrived reasons. I tried to talk to them but got nothing but impossible alternatives.

My HR made me feel like I was the only one in the world who had a problem with this company and they refused to intervene or help in any way.

I have an appointment to consult a lawyer because I anticipate loss of coverage (while they continue to take my MONEY for coverage!) -- and my circumstances are crystal clear there's no loophole to reject my dependents. No question about that, only problems satisfying Chapman's unreasonable demands.

Has anyone else gone the route of getting legal advice? If you're interested in class action, I'll check back here and let the lawyer I'm consulting know there are others.

  8. I would let gannett make the first move and try to kick you off! They haven't done nothing to me so far and I never answered them back with two warning letters and they gave me an extra month also and I ignored them. They keep on taking my medical premiums and have covered my immediate family me and three others so relax. I believe this was all a bluff and nearly everyone I know , like sheep, always comply. Like bullies in the schoolyard you need to call their bluff sooner or later or else they will keep on taking!! Stand up and don't be a sheep!

  9. Since when was it an employee's responsibility to do an HR function? I don't work for Gannett anymore, but there's no way I would have faxed, mailed or otherwise turned sensitive information over to strangers. I would have given the stuff to Gannett HR and held them accountable for where it ended up.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
