Olympics '08: Please guest-post for Gannett Blog

The 2008 summer games start two weeks from tomorrow, with the opening ceremonies of one of the most high-profile sports events of the year. I'm looking for sports reporters and editors -- current and retired -- who are willing to write occasional posts appraising Gannett's coverage of the Beijing games.

Why don't I write 'em myself? Allow me to momentarily reinforce a stereotype about gay men and sports: I sure like watching men's gymnastics and swimming. (As a 15-year-old in Providence, R.I., I took more than a passing interest in 1972 swimming gold medalist Mark Spitz and his famous beefcake poster, left.)

Apparently, though, many fans watch for the thrill of the competitions -- rather than a glimpse of those tiny Speedos. Plus, yours truly writes sports copy about as well as Gannett's CEO runs the company. So, if you're interested, please shoot me an e-mail with sample Olympics posts, plus links to your previous work. You can have a for-real byline. Or, you can post anonymously.

Like Arianna Huffington, I won't pay you a dime. (I work gratis, too.) But you'll get a chance to see your work published on one of the industry's more widely read blogs.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
