From an e-mail sent yesterday by Journal News Publisher Mike Fisch: "We understand that the rising gas prices are causing a hardship for many of our employees. In an effort to improve this situation, a change will be made in the gas reimbursement rate. Effective July 14, 2008, the gas reimbursement rate will increase 5 ½ cents, from .37 ½ cents to .43 cents per mile. The reimbursement rate for all miles driven over 250 miles in a week will also increase, and the new rate will be .35 cents per mile."
Forwarding Fisch's memo, a reader says: "How kind to raise a measly five cents to 43 cents, when the IRS rate is now 58 cents."

I'd gladly take 43 cents. We are at 33 cents in Wisconsin.
ReplyDeleteWith all the things wrong with Westchester they decide to fix the mileage rate. Not that many heads on the road so they can raise the rate. How about Westchester tells us how many people have left, been bought out, outsourced or fired in the last three years. Not many real journalist or copy editors left there and it show in the printed mistakes and the reporting of news three days after it happens.
ReplyDeleteThat is a pretty good move on the part of the newspaper. Of course some people will never be hapy, even if it was raised to $1 a gallon.
ReplyDeleteWhat a generous gesture. My old place was paying 22.5 cents about six months ago.
ReplyDeleteOurs just went UP to 30 cents.
ReplyDeleteHa! We just got boosted to 31!
ReplyDeleteIt is spelled HAPPY not HAPY, must of been a Westchester manager leaving that comment.
ReplyDeleteWait ... here is more from anon/5:53 ....
ReplyDelete"Not many real journalist or copy editors left there and it show in the printed mistakes and the reporting of news three days after it happens."
-- journalists, not journalist
-- shows, not show
Again, here's hoping 5:53 is not a copy editor. If so, he/she needs a style/grammar book more than he/she does a mileage increase.
indy's is 36 cents
ReplyDeleteanybody know who's replacing dear babs there?
I would bet another from the SCL/Dickey group. Not many left though. Maybe Karen Crothfelt, Amy Pack, maybe even Arnie
ReplyDeleteanon 1:32, your right.
ReplyDeleteIt will be someone that can easily do the "yes Bob", "your right Bob", "great point Bob", "you only want me to cut $200K, I can give you $250K Bob" bobble head bob. As smart as Bob is, he resents beng questionedn and only wants to hear "yes Bob"
mileage in 'bama is 23.5 cents.
ReplyDeleteNo. It's 23 flat. I'd gladly take the extra half cent.
ReplyDeletecan someone explain to me why if you pay $4.00 per gallon in Westchester you get paid 43 cents per mile but if you pay $4.00 per gallon elsewhere you get paid substantially less??? Since Fisch has been here he only picks the easy tasks to "improve" the paper. He seems lost to me but I'm a journalist so what do I know!
ReplyDeleteDo you suppose mileage reimbursement rates are hyper-local--- local local local decisions maybe?
