Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."

Only 4 posts yesterday? Something seem wrong?
ReplyDeleteMy grandfather just called me and said he is going to cancel the weekly paper and just get Sundays. He said the paper is more like a circular during the week. I am talking a VERY loyal reader! That is a real concern considering his age group is the prime newspaper reader.
ReplyDeleteFor the records, jag (which is part of my-email address), is me rmichem.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious I was let go last december by Gannett. I have had two strange things happen. One I just checked my 401k and all my money had been moved into gannett stock by someone. I can't imagine me doing this. I also have started getting calls from a company knowing all about me leaving the company and wanting to move my money to an IRA. I find it interesting that this company would have information like this. I'm wondering if Gannett is leaking information about me.
ReplyDeleteHey Jim looks like u skipped out on us.Thats ok you did stick it to corporate for awhile and now its time to move on.Best wishes to all who got laid off due to Gannetts GREED.Maybe someday the shoe might be on the other foot.Till then PEACE
ReplyDeleteThere are no tell-tale signs of impeding layoffs at my paper.
ReplyDeleteEveryone seems upbeat. Either nothing is happening or they are hiding it extremely well.
Anyone else?
Digital Sales Supervisor let go.
ReplyDeleteHey jag
ReplyDeleteThe four comments he had yesterday and the five today are about as many of the total comments he had in his other site the whole time it's been up. Not only that he's trying to raise money there too. Good luck with that Jim
Look, I am still and always will be a fan of Jim and this blog.
ReplyDeleteNowhere else was I able to go and vent my anger and frustrations with this miserable company.
Jim deserves our praise for that!
Also, can I ask... as an ex-employee... I am curious about how the Gannett furloughs were handled... technically.
Did all salied exempt employees have to take their furlough all in one week?
Just curious...
It's interesting, within a week of leaving a Gannett paper, I too was contacted by a person offering help with moving my 401. I hung up and didn't write down his name but it was odd. I spent the majority of the first several days after being laid-off talking with employees and figured someone may have given my name to a friend.
ReplyDeleteJim, this might be an interesting thing to pursue.

ReplyDeleteJim is on to other things. This blog is now a promotional vehicle for his "other" things.
Picaruler:
I have been noticing the same upbeat attitude as have you. I think things have bottomed out. Flat is better than down for now and an ever so slight uptick is happening in some areas. Gas prices are an interesting indicator.
