Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."

And the survivors get Stockholm Syndrome and rings to go with it.
I have to agree wit this comments from the "Fame" post:
ReplyDelete"11:26 AM here again ...
My point was that Jim is not risking his life here. He runs a piddly blog that apparently is too much for him to handle, and he makes it sound like he's discovered a cure for cancer AND the common cold.
His behavior at the shareholder meeting showed him for what he really is - a gadfly. And one with enough money to go AGAIN to Spain this summer. Know when the last time I went on a real vacation like that was? Wasn't even this millennium.
He has money somewhere but has been begging all of us for support. For what, exactly? Bodyguards, cross-country plane trips to settle personal vendettas, and now Spain - again.
I'm shocked anyone here still supports him. Damn, I sent the dude money because I believed in him, but he's really let us down.
Go again and call me a "corporate hack" or whatever you want, Jim. It's a good shield for any criticism of you - and in this case, it's totally not true. I'm just a guy out here in the hinterlands who thought you were on our side, but it turned out you were using us to play out your own petty revenge.

No, the survivors take a voluntary buy out, earning two weeks pay for every year worked along with medical insurance. They they are able to take extended vacations to Europe every year, even though they beg us for contributions to keepo their blog running.
Here is an interesting conversation:

Jim is the digital version of Bernie Madoff. He tricked us all and took our money so he can go build a gay, porn blog. Nice job!

What the hell is wrong with you, 6:38pm? Get a life!

Hmm... so much for conversation, support and discourse. One commenters shares his feelings after seeing Jim return to the expensive Ibiza with a trunk full of jester hats while we can't afford a vacation unless it is at home during furlough. The other bashes him for sharing his feelings on the subject.
That's why I don't say much here. Someone in another post talked about how we are here to support each other. All I see is birchinging and venting with plenty of it coming from people that aren't even Gannett employees any more. If I wanted to discuss things with former employees I would go to the FormerGannett Employeesblog.blogspot.com.
This blog has turned into a mean bunch of unhappy people that want everyone else to be unhappy, people that hate "the man," feel oppresed and feel every manager in a 41,500 employee company is bad. WTF? It is a shame. Jim keeps talking about all the unique visitors when I'll bet many aren't unique; it's the same old bunch all the time, mostly from work if they still have a job.
A sad, sad thing.
To work at Gannett, especially the CNY division, you must have long and thick tongues to kiss Sherm ass. Look at his team and you will know what I mean. I am still working for that bunch of ass kicking group and have been observing that his management group, from supervisors to directors in every department are having the long and thick tongue syndrome. Some have even resorted to brushing their tongue so that Sherms ass won't smell bad after they kiss and lick it. It is sad when one has to resort to kissing ass to keep their job.
ReplyDeleteI'll just bet Diego Vasquez
ReplyDeletewill becoome a contributing editor for Ibiza confidential. He sure wrote an interesting, quite slanted article for Jim to promote his new venture.
No legitimate journalist would have written what Diego wrote. Then again, perhaps he just took Jim's Ibiza press release a copy and pasted that in his blog.
Why would a "publication" (with no actual street address, mind you) for media planners and buyers write an article like this? Are they paid off to do so? It seems they would be on to more serious, legitimate news.

ReplyDeleteWhere is the blog monitor? It must be 1:00 or 2:00 in the afternoon in Ibiza. Must be at the beach or the pool. Can't still be asleep from a night of parties and frivolity.

ReplyDeleteCNY....
ReplyDeleteSherms ring I have no comment on, its typical corporate politics.
Same goes for kissing sherms butt, I never see him much.
To the people that are slamming The Ad Director, if you hate the place, go work at McDonalds, please. You are probably one of those half ass workers that is more concerned with leaving sharply at 5pm, after which time you poor job performance becomes my problem and I am one of the people that gets to clean up your mess.
It seems to me that the sales people under JR are doing a pretty good job. We had a 14 page Saturday classified section packed with auto ads, we have a 60 page Sunday paper. Not bad for a little town like ours.
I do not work in advertising, nor am I a bigshot. But I will back JR up any day of the week.
I believe this blog was very helpful and timely. It was here when we all really needed to find out information regarding our jobs, being let go, benefits, pensions etc. I'm grateful that Jim did this when we needed it most. Thanks Jim and good luck in all your future projects. Hopefully these people with sour grapes will not continue this tirade on the site.
ReplyDeleteJR's ass kisser out of the wood works? Good for you and keep on kissing that ass for it will make you go far up the ass kissing ladder. Looks like the ass wipe club had another new member!Hahaha, how about the rest of the week's paper?

OMG, THE JANITOR WHO DOES THE CLEAN UP HAS EVEN SPOKEN UP IN SUPPORT OF THE ASS KISSERS. LOOKS LIKE KISSING TOILET BOWLS DOES NOT GET YOU FAR COMPARED TO KISSING ASSES! WAY TO GO!!!!
NJ Question: On Friday there was a posting concerning a final NJ Court decision that Verizon employees who took voluntary buyouts in 2003 because they "had reason to believe" their jobs were threatened were not entitled to the unemployment compensation they received.
ReplyDeleteQUESTION: HAS ANYONE IN NJ FACED THIS PROBLEM WITH THE MAY 2008 VOLUNTARY BUYOUTS? WE DID HAVE A LETTER FROM TOM DONOVAN STATING THAT IF THE GOALS OF THE VOLUNTARY BUYOUTS WERE NOT MET, LAYOFFS WOULD DEFINITELY FOLLOW. And they surely did!
Anyone having with experience this, PLEASE respond.

ReplyDeleteOh, it will all right ... it'll cut out ALL comments.
Jim, if you can't handle this blog anymore, then shut shut it down NOW.
Dr.: You are a guest on my blog. Please mind your manners, and stop being rude.
ReplyDeleteAll of a sudden you're worried about manners. Hilarious.
ReplyDeleteBut at least the ego has finally landed in full view of the masses.
Shut it down, dude.
