Reader: Tech guru Saridakis is a 'breath of fresh air'

Regarding a sudden flurry of new job openings under Chief Digital Officer Chris Saridakis, a reader calls him a smart guy who proved himself as head of Gannett advertising subsidiary PointRoll. "Seems like his track record would speak for itself. . . . I heard him speak a few weeks ago, and he knows what he wants and he is willing to take the risks even if it is his own job. He visited our office and took the time to meet with our newsroom, and after he departed, he was following up and driving the initiative forward. I am fairly optimistic, and he is a breath of fresh air."

  1. Saridakis is a great leader. I worked with him when he was running Pointroll and have enjoyed seeing that company grow from from nothing.

He is a tough manager and his expectations are always set really high, but that wouldn't be such a bad thing for Gannett.

I'd argue that expectations are often unrealistically high already, given the resources available. I love climbing the mountain, but I expect GCI to give me proper gear, rather than just a firm handshake.

  3. Jim,
You should see if Tara will let you interview the digital guy. We hear many good things about him and I have heard he has been out at the newspapers recently talking up the Gannett opportunity. Maybe we need to hear what you think about him. Do you think they would let you talk to him?

  4. You get a handshake? I get a 100-lb pack!

  5. He seems to be innovative and fair. It's not his fault that DIG dug him a hole to try and climb out of.

I've been looking at the latest site launches and they have a lot more in common than just the look. The search function on the sites takes me forever to get the content I'm looking for.

Wasn't the multi-million dollar purchase of Planet Discover in 2006 supposed to make us elite. Is Planet Discover still the search engine?

Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
