Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."

ReplyDelete9:26 yesterday, Gannett's anti-Gannettblog Rewards program does not pay for the improperly worded "I think the blog is over." To be credited under the program, the posting must say, "This blog is dead."

ReplyDeleteMy feelings are so hurt. I composed a very nice song and it was deleted. How unfortunate. It was about Ibiza so I just don't understand why the blog owner would have done such a thing. :-(
ReplyDeleteBefore Gannett considers another round of furloughs, they should consider this. Our newsroom is taking a beating this quarter due to the amount of news that must be covered by a very limited number of people. Mistakes are being made. Things are falling through the cracks. People are literally overwhelmed. So far, there hasn't been a large amount of hand slapping saying "shape up and make fewer mistakes." Thank God for that. But many people are close to the end of their ropes.
ReplyDeleteThe company should very carefully consider the ramifications of another round of furloughs. If an overwhelmed staffer (at ANY newspaper) makes a mistake that could lead to a lawsuit, it would be horrible for that paper and for Gannett.
No, that is not a threat. I don't wish ill on any Gannett paper or the company. That's merely an observation of the reality in our newsroom - a reality that truly and deeply worries me.
Jim, you really removed by post that read: "This post wasn't removed by a blog administrator"?
ReplyDeleteWhat's incendiary/improper about that?
Jim seems most interested in comments that promote Ibiza. Who can blame him? There isn't a lot of interest in Gannett right now. But when there's bad news, everyone will get excited again. (you can hear the relief on this blog when the stock prices go down. Whatever would we do if something positive really happened. That would be a real bummer.)
ReplyDeleteHere's an update for those of you who enjoy this blog enough to keep returning for more news and information about Gannett:
ReplyDeleteThank you! A point of emphasis on my new for-profit blog: I promoted Ibiza Confidential heavily over roughly 24 hours on Thursday, and will likely do so again on the day it launches, around July 1.
Ibiza Confidential is an important new source of potential income for me; that would be good for Gannett Blog, because success would mean a new revenue stream, reducing the burden on a relative handful of readers who have made the majority of financial contributions to this site. So, to recap:
Thank you for being repeat visitors! Sorry about the occasional off-topic posts I make; but a blog owner has t make a living!
If you want to see Gannett Blog survive, please bear with me while I try doing that.
If you don't want this blog to survive, then perhaps you might want to consider taking that negative energy somewhere else.
Jim,
ReplyDeleteI am sorry people are giving you grief over Ibiza Confidential. Although the signal to noise ration on the Gannett Blog has increased in the last six months, this is still the single best source for information on the Gannett and the wackadoodles that run the company. If Ibiza Confidential gives you more resources to help keep Gannett Blog I say go for it. You're still the only place we lowly Gannettoids can come to for reliable information.
thanks.
dear 1:13 - newsroom staffs are not the only ones at the end of their ropes - ask someone in finance, sales, circulation, delivery and the "design" hub,our location can't keep up - can any newspaper? quality is the first thing to go - then what do you have left?
ReplyDeleteNo more Furloughs...Just a 5% paycut across the board....
ReplyDelete1:13: The local furlough-thinned newsroom is unlikely to get Gannett sued since much of the content is pablum. Unless you're a psychotic gardener upset about iris coverage, and until feel-good editorials become actionable, there's little chance of litigation.
