Dealing a fatal blow to the Tucson Citizen, a federal judge turned aside Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard's request that Gannett resume publishing the paper in print. Next, the top editor at The Detroit News confirmed recent speculation that layoffs are now in the works at the paper, plus at the Detroit Free Press, and the Detroit Media Partnership, which handles circulation and other business for the two papers. Finally, in a surprisingly strong reaction, many readers here ripped into Corporate for awarding coveted President's Rings and cash gifts to top managers across the company, despite the latest round of layoffs, furloughs and other expense reductions.

All old news. Time to recycle? Why post anything at all if it's a repeat? Isn't there SOMEthing going on? Or should we just take a few days off?
ReplyDeleteCusato in Hawaii got a Prez ring and they're BLEEDING circulation due to a lack of content and Gannetts failure to shutdown the competition there!
ReplyDeleteWhat's up with that!?!?!?!
Ugly ring...looks machine-stamped and, hey, are those diamonds even a 1/4 ct.???
ReplyDeleteIf the ring's a pay-off its a cheap one...
Hey, the APP gave away a Caddy (which they had the brass to park in front of the building with balloons attached), laptops and resort trips to "top performing salespeople" a few months back. Why shouldn't corporate give a diamond ring to the usual management suspects? Consider it the ring of Judas.
ReplyDeleteOh and the best part about the Caddy? When the dealership which car came from won some big national GM award, the APP had a reporter writer a news story about it that ran in the already diminished local news section instead of in the classified advertorials where it belonged. How does that fit into the "Code of Ethics" we all have to sign annually?
ReplyDeleteI just looked at the list. I have never seen a bigger list of suck up ass kissers in my life.
ReplyDeleteHow can a person in get a ring when all properties are supposedly doing as poorly as reported.
Make you think that things are not as bad as stated by the Corporate thugs running the company.
