Gannett board member Fruit dies of heart attack

Charles Fruit was just 61, and had been a member of the board since February 2007, GCI said in a just-released statement disclosing his death, yesterday. Fruit was a senior marketing advisor to the Coca-Cola Co. “Chuck was an extraordinarily kind and gentle man whose calm demeanor and sparkling ideas added a great dimension to our board of directors,'' Chairman and CEO Craig Dubow said. "His marketing expertise was unrivaled and a valuable asset to Gannett."

Fruit's death means the board now has eight members. GCI's statement said nothing about whether he would be replaced.
