Bitter bloggers: We don't get mad; we get even!

Longtime Indianapolis Star staffer Debbie Bostic apparently promised top Editor Dennis Ryerson that she wouldn't start blogging about the newspaper when she quit recently -- then got peeved when her departure showed up on a blog run by another ex-staffer. "If you have left the paper and are bitter I am sorry. But move on,'' she said in an e-mail, that referred to the blogger, Ruth Holladay.

Sadly, Gannett doesn't need to fear that many ex-employees will blog about the company: Hundreds of folks have left over the past year alone, and I'm still waiting for the wave of blogs I urged folks to start when I added my name to Gannett Blog for the first time.

I won't speak for Holladay, whose blog I read often (Hi, Ruth!). But as for yours truly, I'm not bitter. I'm just getting even! LOL!

  1. Jim, Wasn't your buyout voluntary? Why bitter then? Or were the USAT buyouts not as voluntary as advertised? Just curious; not grinding any axe with the questions.

  2. @8:18 pm: After I wrote LOL, I considered adding: (Just kidding!). Something may have gotten lost in translation.

  3. $3.71 per gallon? Crap! I'm going to drive 1,000 miles to Indianapolis just to fill up!

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
