Annals of P.R.: Flacks, and the cold shoulder

I covered business news for most of the 22 years I spent in my first journalism career. Over that time, more than a few flacks got in a snit -- deciding to counter negative stories by refusing to return my calls and e-mails. It never worked; they always came crawling back.

What's your experience been like? Leave a note, in the comments section, below. Or use this link to e-mail your reply; see Tipsters Anonymous Policy in the green sidebar, upper right.

  1. The coverage of newspapering. Where's the piece on leadership at the executive level? Options. I never see anything written about newspaper options. Always that knee jerk reaction; buyouts, cost-cutting, reducing benefits, etc.

New Jersey knew what was coming. The circulation trends have been there for years. Collins was a known quantity. The morale sucked.
    Overtime was always abused.

12 year old kids delivering the newspaper. Sales managers without sales focus. Spoiled executives never in touch with the community.
    Always the moving target.

    The dance, always the dance.

The lies always catch up with you.

  2. The official Gannett website lists nothing about the buyouts. Who are they kidding? As though Wall Street and John Morton don't know the deal. The abuse and mismanagement of employees has been around for fifteen years.

Just get those EPS...earnings per share...up.

Better to invest in a Subway franchise than to buy Gannett stock.

Tara is a mouthpiece. As to be expected.

Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
