He's not a bad writer, but I doubt he has much knowledge of Ithaca or Binghamton
Fortunately, Ithacans are not notorious for their parochial natures, independent outlooks, or general contrariness...so I'm guessing they'll have no problem with an SG editor doing the opinion page for Ithaca.
