  1. First buy not last! Nothing new, but every day in the Jersey group is a eyeopener!

  2. Perhaps Jim can help push for an inspection of the Courier-Post building. That place has always been a health hazard.

  3. I think you are going to need divine intervention for that one

  4. APP & Ernie, his accusations are very believable. I worked there for a few years and smelled the stank here and there in the building. As well as the fumes in the print shop area. I remember when he was fired too and when the building was evacuated from supposed threats and no one in management would tell us what the hell was going on. Not a word! Sleaze company! Glad I don't breath that air anymore, feel terrible for Ernie and the few left in that crud building! Non the less, the air I currently breath is better, but not much! Good luck Ernie and keep at those cruds in Neptune. Others let go at Neptune... back up Ernie with a comment.

  7. No body is mad Ernie, anyway I personally don't know you but met you a few years ago, introduced by one of your buddies. Hell, we are all in the the same boat, and it's sinking.

  9. Jimmy Boy: What a fabulous idea to give NJ a full blog section of its own. In my long years with the NJ Group there have been many questionable and unsavory practices-- many of which were fire hazards and direct law violations. Courier was always great for stacking advertising inserts in the narrow hallways not allowing the passage of two people at one time. The fines were merely paid and years later there was an expansion to solve the problem. A standard way of clearing out the night Hispanic workers quickly was to merely stand by the door and yell "Immagracion". Heard it worked every time.

On this auspicious day the CN & HNT present their twice weekly column by the associate editor. I shall not comment on the style, content or merit of this piece-- but I urge all of you to read it. It is written in a form of eubonics which may or may not appeal to the general readership. This may be an intentional way of serving a minority readership.

An "atta boy" goes out to Slippy the Publisher. When he came from the APP on very short notice, we were told not to expect a great deal. You know, that was a good assessment, but the man has a smile for each employee which is the only smile coming from management at any level which isn't constipated in its look. Maybe he reallly knows more than we think, or maybe he knows much less.

'Til we meet again on the blog or in the hallways. Give me the bouble winky-winky so I know you're reading Jimmy's excellent blog.

  10. I just cant sleep, something is really bothering me.yesterday when I said how I found out months later, what we were exposed to.It was from the Cannon 4 color copier repair log. This log was according to the repair guys, supposed to stay in the front door panel of the machine, after my complaint it disappeared, guess what I got a copy of it,it says the reason for the blue color drum always going down was from sulfuric acid fumes.(there words not mine)

  11. It is so sad that NJ has so much bad stuff going on that they need there own page

    ReplyDelete
  12. It's not only Jersey that has so much "bad stuff" going on; each and every Gannett property nationwide has a problem(s). It's just that the folks from Jersey are the only ones smart enough to figure it out and the ballsy mouths to say something about it.

    ReplyDelete
  13. More like Jersey folks can't shut up, but potayto, potahto.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hortense, I am SCARED of you!

    ReplyDelete
  15. There are more Gannett papers concentrated (I believe) in NJ than any other state.

  17. Is Jersey still part of the United States? Weren't all the stupid people thrown there? Funny how Jim created a separate place for us retards.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Does anyone know what's really going on with home delivery and PCF at the APP? There are many, many rumors.

    ReplyDelete
  19. It's terrific to see so many of you in this comments string. Jersey Gannett Bloggers are the best!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I was really pissed about the lack of information about the armed cop patrol at the APP.

I directly asked Kathi Abatemarco on the second occasion, and she refused to tell me why.

I'm a single mom with sole responsibility for three dependents. I wanted to -- and should have been entitled to -- know the risk and judge for my own circumstance if I was safe enough, or at least prepare for a worse-case scenario, especially in regard to the bomb squad.

Cops can do only so much to protect.

Anyone else notice that the symptoms Ernie talked about yesterday may have been similar to anthrax poisoning, and didn't he work around the mailroom? Remember the fatal anthrax that was mailed to news folks and others in 2001? Would the armed cops help if there was a serious threat by someone as enterprising? I'm just sayin' ...

    ReplyDelete
  21. To 10:39 I am so sorry.I am a single parent also so I can relate.I worked in the print shop.I was terminated for, well you can read yesterdays blog. After I left,I herd stories of threats that I supposidly made.To this day I have nor will I threaten anyone at the APP,they have to deal with there own minds.I herd of some new ones yesterday that really surprised me.YES you should have bin told, but you know what? This only goes to show that APP DID something wrong, and that they are very paranoid about it.A guilty mind is a terrible thing. But think about it, they cant tell what they don't want you to know.So I'm sorry that you and everyone else had to put up with the bomb threats and the armed guards,it would worry me too!

    ReplyDelete
  22. P.S. I don't think that it was anthrax, but rather over exposure to sulfuric acid fumes.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Wow 2.48 and falling,Please become a NEWS PAPER again

    ReplyDelete
  24. Philadelphia Daily News' owner announced that it will be a part of the Inquirer effective March 30. Will retain own masthead but circ numbers will be included under Inquirer. Also this joining together will allow them to save some $$$ by eliminating duplication of certain things such as wire services. Now they (Inquirer) can claim higher circ numbers to further fool advertisers. Might be a good idea for the Gannett NJ papers to combine in the same way.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Wow Jim. thanks for the N.J. page!24 comments,I said I get made when I read that New Jersey papers rock,YA. because that would involve the name Gannett, well from what I can tell, is that NEW JERSEY PAPERS WORKERS ROCK!

    ReplyDelete
  26. To 11:25 don't Gannett also buy the NJ News name?Wouldn't that be cool THE NEW JERSEY NEWS.its got a kinda ring to it.get ride of some real krudy people, and save the ROCKERS!

    ReplyDelete
  27. was APP this screwed up before Gannett took them over?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Weren't the police called in when someone from the newsroom was let go and shouted some threats? It is a testament to the self-importance running rampant in that building that they overreact to such things.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  30. 11:53 do you mean screwed up,or interesting?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Police were called, someone got cut from the glass pictures in the staircase and one of our godlike guards stopped and held him down

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yes they had Skip by the throat and he had broken the glass and knocked down pictures. They tumbled down the stair well, security was in it, Dan was in it helping Skip. The Neptune police didn't come up until they were in the lobby still fighting. Neptune Police didn't like what APP wrote about them so they don't rush over.

    ReplyDelete
  33. So Ernie wasn't the only guy to threaten Skip?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Maybe the hard-hitting journalists could do their own pushing for an inspection.

Funny how they seem to be afraid to do so. It's sort of like the Bugs Bunny cartoon: "I wonder if Daffy remembers he can fly." Daffy plummets. "Nope, I guess not."

The lazy journalists are plummeting. They'll never fly. I hope they're good at crawling.

    ReplyDelete
  35. New Jersey is a beautiful state with crappy newspapers overseen by totally crappy editors and publishers. We should all shout out some praise for Marty and Brandon and Mike and Walter who fill the CN with the only "news" worth reading. I would hate to see these wonderfully talented boys laid off, but they need to realize that they are far too good for the limited audiences they reach. As for Marty and Brandon-- take the jobs you were offered with Abercrombie and Fitch! Woof-Woof!
If you stay, in a few short years you will look and act like Silly Pants and the Temple University cheerleader (who laughs his silly ass off at everything he writes).

    ReplyDelete
  36. I would say ,that it would be kinda hard for one of the APP guys, to do any kind of story on the paper or the building.Out of work right now, would not be to much fun.Know anybody in radio?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Ernie you rat bastard you

    ReplyDelete
  38. To 12:57 on the other page. I don't know were you are,but what makes it so hard to do anything in NJ, is that Jersey is a privilege to work state.Just like our right to drive.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Lots of excuses. Not much effort to expose the problem from the hard-hitting journalists.

"I wonder if Daffy remembers he can fly."

    (fast fall downward)

    "Nope, I guess not."

    ReplyDelete
  40. Saying that a reporter should do something is not going to work!It is not just the reporters job. They need to feed a family too.If you are really concerned, get a lot of people to do something all at once.I talked to the Health Dept.OSHA,local and Fed.Mailed Letters too, said I could show pics.No one cared about one person.I think this is because if you are the publisher of a news paper you must be telling the truth. And if the dept.that is investigating is wrong. The paper might wright about them. But if they herd from a lot of employee's,that is to them, just a little more credible.

  41. 2.37 not good

  43. Please watch those personal accusations; I try to cut everyone a lot of slack, but there are limits.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hey, are you still alive "Jersey Rocks?" Haven't heard from you lately. Did the Neptune air effect your writing capabilities?

    ReplyDelete
  45. I don't know if now would be a good time to do any complaining about air or the building $2.22 OMG

    ReplyDelete
  46. "NEW JERSEY ROCKS"
HAVING A HARD TIME BREATHING IN HERE

    ReplyDelete
  47. LETS PLAY CAN YOU GUESS WHO I AM AND WHERE I WORK ? CLUES TO FOLLOW!

    ReplyDelete
  48. The excuse count is climbing.

"I wonder if Daffy remembers he can swim."

    (sinks to the bottom)

    "Nope, I guess not."

No wonder journalists are failing. A plum story in their own chain, but they can't get it.

    ReplyDelete
  49. To 7:42 Skip head of the newsroom ,covered up the print shop witch he also was head of .How are the reporters supposed to do anything?

    ReplyDelete
  50. True fact about Skip: The guy gave out unprecedented 2x-a-year $30 a week raises to the entire newsroom when he was executive editor at the c-p -- he fought for them because we were so underpaid comparatively. some people loved him. some people absolutely hated him -- but he really did that. That was probably 10 years ago and I am still in amazement.

    ReplyDelete
  51. HORTENSE, I think i have figured you out...the Temple cheerleader writes above your head (in other words, you don't understand)

  52. Can someone please explain how ads and ad copy are disappearing into thin air - especially at the Courier News and the HOme News? Something is not right....
