  2. Speaking of the sale of newspaper's buildings-- whats the deal with the Ocean County Observer building? (Aside from the fact that it's still a dump)

  5. They're coming to take me away! oh no!

  6. Nothing on the PCF website. Just the same information from when they started delivering the Courier News and Home News Tribune.

Since this is a Jersey blog...anyone know how the Atlantic City Press is doing? They are the only mom and pop paper, I believe, in the state. Are they in survival mode or business as usual?

  10. I guess that a paper merger could be good I mean Weired NJ expanded to Weird US

  11. If I was a reporter right now,for Gannett of course, I would be doing a story on the Heroes of the sixties.I mean in uncertain times we gave them ticker tape parades. They were News of the world! My point is,how come we don't cover what they are saying now.I'm talking about the Nasa Astronauts! If the Gov.has literally free energy.Don't you think now is the time to let that go!And my first interview would start with Rich O.The man from Gannett that rote a book on Apollo!Give the tech.to GM and to GE,could help, don't you think?just sayin it would be a quick story from the inside out.

  16. AC has a hiring freeze but no layoffs - seems to be making a profit. Still have all of their weekly and nitch publications in place and expanding their web capabilities.

  17. Just how much more Prozac can CN and HNT readers take?

Saturday, the associate editor ranted about not seeing any reason to stand for the National Anthem at sporting events. Because he (understandably) has no honor accorded to himself, why should we honor our police, firefighters, emergency service personnel? He finds the idea of getting off his ass and standing for this a violation of his rights.

Today, it gets curioser and curioser. The topic is BREASTFEEDING!!!

Is there really any management monitoring the content of these newspapers?

  18. The AC Press is not the only family-owned newspaper left in NJ - so is the Bergen Record.

    ReplyDelete
  19. don't forget the newhouses own a bunch of papers, not the least of which is Newark ... talk about a family!

    ReplyDelete
  20. The Princeton Packet - and all the little Packets - is still a family owned chain, as well. And probably doing much better than we are.

As for NJToday, we already have one of those - it's called the Star Ledger and look what great shape they are in.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I talked to a Packet reporter today. He said that all the bureau offices have been closed and that operations have been moved to the Packet headquarters in Princeton and a few houses in the immediate vicinity. They have had layoffs too in the recent past.

  22. The Press of Atlantic City website is very primitive and has not changed for a very long time. It doesn't carry much each day.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Still nothing from the hard-hitting reporters about the building problems.

"I wonder if Daffy remembers he can swim."

    (sinks like an anchor)

    "Nope, I guess not."

  24. Jim, you really did NJ an injustice by separating us from the rest of the pack. Yeah, we're vocal and we voice our opinions, but now it is starting to drop off. Everyone is afraid to comment.

  26. 11:24 pm: I would argue the opposite -- that the total number of N.J. posts has climbed.

I set this up only for very New Jersey-specific stuff: the news and comments that is so local-local, it needs its own string.

N.J. Group employees are ALWAYS free to comment on any post; I only ask that your comment be of more wide interest than what you might post in Jersey Confidential.

  27. I worked at CN and I'm shocked the paper even still exists. From the "hired gun" they bought in for circ (who didn't even realize racial and sexual slurs MAY be against the LAW!),his legendary temper tantrums, to news vending machines that never worked, delivery people who quit about every ten minutes and content that was so awful...even the old folks in Plainfield couldn't be bothered buying it. Plus...wasn't slavery outlawed? Try working less than 70 hour work weeks down there. They'll call you a slacker and threaten to fire you. And the ethics were...deplorable. I'm SO glad I'm OUT and I wish you all the best of luck down there. Abject poverty is better than still being there!!

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
