Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."

Wooowoowoowoo! I'm first!
ReplyDeleteAny truth to the rumor that Gannett is going to announce a merger of all NJ papers tomorrow, into one NJ Today? I've heard that from several different (unknown to each other) sources.
ReplyDeleteThat'd be awesome. When am I getting fired?
ReplyDeleteWow. What an interesting concept. The poster child state for home rule will really go for that, for sure.
ReplyDeleteMy word verification is "asshat." Should I be offended?
ReplyDeleteNJ Today? That'd certainly be interesting. And most likely the end of my job, as they'd just dump what I do on top of the APP staff and call it good.
ReplyDeleteNJ Today? I've been calling that for years.
ReplyDeleteMerging would make sense based on the fact that there is so much GNS and wire service copy filling the papers of late. Less and less locally produced copy is what we're seeing in the NJ papers. They could even replicate A section to carry what is in USA Today. The courier post has been loaded with stories that hsould be strictly in the Vineland Daily Journal. Is this a trend or is it that the remaining editors don't know the geography, or, don't have enough truly local news to fill what is left of the news hole?
ReplyDeleteNJ Today! It is likely
ReplyDeletewhere would they print it?
ReplyDeleteMy guess is that they eventually have satellite's for the 5 smaller papers and APP will be the main site. Each paper will keep it's masthead and local news and advertisements. Just a guess, but they have already sold the CN building and the DR building is on the market and HNT is just a lease.
ReplyDeleteCant sell Neptune
ReplyDeleteRemember the old advertising phrase?
ReplyDelete"New Jersey and You Perfect Together"
NJ Today makes more sense than Florida Today.
What the hell ... is everyone in NJ on furlough? Awfully slow today.
ReplyDeleteI've had this nagging feeling for years, that the papers would have a merge of sorts. Especially the HNT & APP, content in several sections was shared for years. Instead a actual acknowledged "soft merge" between the CN & HNT happened. But I believe it makes sense to soft merge all the papers, because of the economic conditions of late and the staff reductions since the layoffs. I don't like this idea, but it makes sense business wise. But then again, since when did anything sensible ever get implemented by Gannett? ;-O I guess we will find out so enough!
ReplyDeleteIs it true about the NJ papers merging and what makes you think that
ReplyDeleteWell that answers that question
ReplyDelete12:02- Most of us call it "Florida Yesterday," since 90% of what is in any given paper was already on the Web the day before. It's almost like having a written archive of "yesterday" in your driveway each morning. And they wonder why subscription rates have fallen off.....
ReplyDeleteTHATS WHY "NEW JERSEY PAPER ROCKS"
ReplyDeleteStock down down down down Gone
ReplyDeleteif anyone has any credibility or information with validity regarding a full NJ merger, please say something. Enough speculating, let's get the true story. Isn't that what this blog is for?
ReplyDeleteI think this blog is for information & opinions (speculation). Anyway if we really knew what was going to happen day to day in Gannettland, we would not need this blog! Sure real credible information is always wanted & welcomed. But sometimes just expressing ones opinions is helpful to ones psyche. That's one of the great freedoms of this country, freedom of speech.
ReplyDeleteThe name "New Jersey Press" and a logo have been around since the Plangere/Lass days.
ReplyDeleteIt has always been a possibility.
No, though, it seems a probability.
NJTODAYNEWS.COM
ReplyDelete...that has a nice ring to it.
To 1:46PM Being a lady of quality and delicacy in my freakin' speech, I would never have written the comment you did. Be that as it may, you have expressed precisely what runs through my mind on a daily basis. Congratulations for having the brass "orbs" to articulate it!
ReplyDeleteJust today, Silly Pants wrote a very sickening explanation of the process involved in ripping off our readers for obituaries. Is there no policy or thieving practice demanded by Gannett that this man doesn't think is just "fabulous"?
NJ Today makes a world of sense. Features/Business/Sports sections can be run of press for all NJ Gannett papers. National and state news also run of press. Only a distinct local section for each of the five papers, with maybe a two page news hole for county news and the 2 or 3 major towns, plus local editorials. No local newsrooms, only MOJOs with laptops ala The Record. Each paper would have an editorial page editor, news editor and 2-3 reporters. No more specialty beats -- education, transportation, environment all gone. Columnists all gone also. If The Record and The Star Ledger can form a joint State House Bureau, an unholy alliance if ever there was one, Gannett can produce NJ Today.
ReplyDeletegraverobbing (written as stomach turns and wrenches for the blatant disregard of love but with the hope that, when the time comes, SillyPants will understand the grief and sorrow and pain of death and begin to appreciate the joy and wonder of life)
ReplyDeleteTomorrow, look for an announcement of a very special gathering of all NJ Gannett employees who have been thrown to the curb. Mr. von Beaverbottom is checking now for an appropriate location. Summerfield Avenue comes to mind if we have a block party. Close to the police station and affordable. If you would like to suggestion or indicate your intention to attend, please RSVP. More details tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteH
huh?
ReplyDeleteSorry Hortense but that makes no sense to me.
