Gannett director Shapiro has sharp elbows

The lone journalist on Gannett's nine-member board of directors recently took over as CEO of the corporate parent of acclaimed New York public TV station WNET, after a one-year apprenticeship. "Four of the station's top executives have left, including those overseeing communications and brand management, online operations and institutional fund-raising." Shapiro joined Gannett's board last October.

Jim says: "Proceed with caution; this is a free-for-all comment zone. I try to correct or clarify incorrect information. But I can't catch everything. Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
