Work more hours? OK. But you gotta pay for it!

It's all well and good for Gannett publishers to say times are tough, and to ask everyone to pitch in by working more -- as a reader noted in a comment about allegations of overtime abuse at the Courier-Post. But as long as CEO Craig Dubow (left) is paying himself millions, and the board of directors is striking sweetheart deals costing millions more -- the company's got to pay for work done by employees. That isn't just the right thing to do; it's the law.

  1. All in all, that's what I get the least about the situation. At our Gannett newspaper, it's all about cutbacks to the point that the pens they provide for journalists literally won't write. Yet, loads of money is still being piled upon upper management (including local publisher who openly spends absurd amounts to match every whim that comes along).

Don't they understand why Rome fell?

  2. I am eager to see what Dubow and other top brass receive in the way of bonuses. The company has tanked over the last year, and many rank-and-file employees have paid dearly with their jobs, piddly merit increases, or mental health. It is questionable whether the CEO and senior management deserve to remain employed, to say nothing of the absurdity of giving them bonuses.

Please keep your posts focused on Gannett and media-related subjects. Note that I occasionally review comments in advance, to reject inappropriate ones. And I ignore hostile posters, and recommend you do, too."
